Platte Woods United Methodist Church, located in Platte Woods, Missouri completed construction with the design-build team of Olathe, Kansas based contractor Harmon Construction and Kansas City, Missouri based architect Mantel Teter. They officially dedicated their new facilities on March 26, 2017. It's been an honor to work with Platte Woods!
Construction is underway at Antioch Bible Baptist Church. Check out the progress below.
First Baptist Church - located in Kearney, Missouri, recently selected the design-build team of Kansas City, Missouri based architect Mantel Teter and Kansas City based contractor Pearce Construction. The church will be renovating existing space for worship, connection, and other support areas. "Our team is excited to be serving this church and helping them repurpose great existing space to be even more relevant for their ministries.” commented Skyler Phelps, the Project Architect for the project.
The Summit, a church located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, is getting very close to completion! The first phase of the project includes a new 750 seat auditorium building that is expandable to 1,100 seats. The facility also provides a large fellowship and community space to have conversation and connection with others. The building is balanced for worship attendance with enough space for children’s ministry space and student’s ministry space. Their new plan provides state of the art rooms with incredible flexibility and amenities such as auditorium space, play space and ministry rooms. The design includes important safety features such as check-in points and security control systems. Below are photos from our recent visit.
At Mantel Teter we believe strongly in giving back to our Kansas City community. One of the organizations we support is Habitat for Humanity. Providing not only a shelter, but a home for an individual or family is something we wholeheartedly believe in. Along with other volunteers, our architects and staff helped with demo of an existing Kansas City home as well as reinforcement of the existing structure. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we enjoyed getting our hands dirty and laying the groundwork for this house to become a home. Below are a few photos from the day.
I have a lot to be thankful for and frankly felt selfish for not recognizing it by helping others.
My business partner was transitioning off the Sheffield Place Board of Directors to serve the community in other capacities and didn’t want to leave without identifying a replacement. He introduced me to Sheffield Place’s mission “To empower homeless mothers and their children to heal from their trauma and help them become self-sufficient”. I visited the facility to learn about their programs, staff and the families served and decided to apply for a position on the Board. My application was accepted and I began serving in January 2006.
I confess that my involvement in the beginning was kind of mechanical. I was “giving back” because it was cosmetically the right thing to do. I know…not a great character testament, but it’s the naked truth. What I was not expecting was to be blindsided by an intense feeling of belonging to something bigger than myself and using my time to join others in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in desperate need of healing and opportunity.
My breakthrough with the organization happened several months after I began serving. To better connect the Board of Directors with the organization’s mission and the families served, time was set aside during board meetings for Sheffield Place clients to share stories about their lives including where they came from, how they were raised, how they were traumatized, how they became homeless and how Sheffield Place’s programs were helping empower them to break the generational cycle of abuse and homelessness. Those stories galvanized my commitment to the mission of Sheffield Place and the mothers and children we serve.
Many of us have a lot to be thankful for. My encouragement to all is to celebrate it by getting involved in making someone else’s life better. Being a part of Sheffield Place is very rewarding and really has changed my life. I invite you to join our struggle and celebrate each success.

This could be declining churches or other retail/big box properties that will be renovated.”
Fountain Springs Church East Campus | Rapid City, South Dakota
Located in Rapid City, South Dakota and a member of Outreach Magazines 100 fastest growing churches in America, Fountain Springs Church had leveraged their present facilities beyond all capacities. The church recognized the hunger to hear the gospel in their community and realized that multisite campuses would assist in this mission. In order to accomplish this mission, two projects would be necessary: a new East campus location and a major addition to the existing West campus.
Mantel Teter was selected to lead the church staff team through our process of visioning and discovery in order to design ministry spaces that will meet their objectives, while containing both projects within the church’s established and shared budget. At the beginning of the process, the church also engaged an owner’s representative and a general contractor to partner early in the process and assist with cost estimating and cost control.
The East campus project includes transforming a vacant lumberyard building into a large Atrium/Lobby space to access a new 550 seat video venue Auditorium. Renovations will also provide an Auditorium for Children’s Ministry and classrooms for nursery and preschool. All spaces are balanced to the new worship capacity. Additional staff offices are also included with the renovations. The exterior of the facilities intentionally blends and matches the architectural styling and materials from the existing West campus.
Journey Church International
It's been an honor working with Journey Church International on their first permanent home!
Journey Church International engaged Mantel Teter's development services to determine the feasibility of a vacant property for their ministry. Through thorough Site Evaluation, Programming, and Master Planning exercises, Mantel Teter assisted the church in deciding to purchase property.
In addition to property evaluation, the Mantel Teter team helped JCI analyze their attendance records, growth patterns, financing, fundraising potential and ministry goals to establish what spaces were needed, what that space might cost to build and how the church could pay for it without sacrificing their ability to do ministry. The information gathered during this process made it clear to the church leadership team that the initial phase of construction should include an expandable 350 seat Auditorium, Christian education space and minimal office space. As the church continues to grow, they are positioned to increase their worship capacity to 700 and to re-balance supporting ministry spaces.
It was an exciting day at Antioch Bible Baptist Church as they dedicated the breaking ground of their new children's facility! It's been an honor to serve the church!
St. Paul's United Church of Christ, located in St. Louis, Missouri, recently selected Kansas City, Missouri based Mantel Teter to lead them through a church health initiative, demographic study, discovery and design process for renovations and additions to their church campus. This will be the first project that MT has served this church. "Our team is so excited to be serving this church and helping navigate them along this design journey.” commented Brian Rathsam, the Project Architect for the project.
Brian Rathsam and Skyler Phelps of Mantel Teter recently attended Empty Bowls, a Kansas City benefit for Harvesters. Empty Bowls is a worldwide project aimed at feeding hungry people one region at a time. Brian and his daughter helped serve various types of soups from Michael Smith Restaurant, Nara and B.B.'s Lawnside BarB-Q. The evening was filled with good food, a collection of ceramic bowls from Kansas City artist Leroy Grubbs and an art auction. Skyler even walked away with a few art pieces!
On Saturday, October 15, 2016, Sheffield Place held their annual Off the Wall event at the National Airline History Museum. Skyler Phelps, Off the Wall committee chair and member of the Sheffield Place Board of Directors, and several other Mantel Teter staff gathered together to support the mission of Sheffield Place. That evening a record amount - $204,510 – was raised for the mission of healing and self-sufficiency for homeless children and their families! The generosity from the evening is now providing housing, therapy and case management, and the life skills the Sheffield Place families need to move from despair to hope and from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Crossview Covenant Church - located in Mankato, Minnesota, recently selected Kansas City, Missouri based Mantel Teter to lead them through a design process for added facilities. Immediate facility needs include expanded children’s ministry space, student ministry space, and renovated lobby/gathering space. "Our team is excited to partner with this church to develop a phased plan and design additional facilities to create a custom tool for their ministry." stated David Evans, President of Mantel Teter and Principal for the project. The Momentum Group of Nashville, Tennessee is providing this project with Owner representation services.
Noland Road Baptist Church - located in Independence, Missouri, recently selected Kansas City, Missouri based Mantel Teter to lead them through a discovery and design process in order to update their campus master plan. This will be the second project that MT has served this church.
